When Superhero stories are adapted from page to screen there are wardrobe difficulties. Trying to capture the ideal of the original drawn image with real textiles is perhaps impossible; in the past, saggy jersey didn’t help Batman’s naff TV show persona, rubber takes us way into fetish country, hard materials like plastic end up looking more like the action figure merchandise than the comic book original….
One thing I might be talking about in my essay is whether CGI costuming might be one answer to this issue. However, based on this…. I’m not convinced.
But then, I’m more of the general mind set that CGI should only be used sparingly and as a last resort.
